What are your hobbies and passions? What are you curious about?
You can become a H&T Correspondent and tell stories that will be broadcast to the world. I’m looking for people who will go out and get the recordings for a program. Someone who is looking for new experiences and wants to share them with an audience. Someone who cares about expanding the accessibile world by finding good examples of accomidation and having fun. Someone with a curiosity for the details and the ability to describe their uniqueness. We can then work together to edit and publish the story on the H&T family of stations.
No experience is neccassary! I am looking for people who want to learn how to record and make a program. A disability is an asset. Part of the H&T story is the dissability and how the correspondent experiences their life. H&T is not about disability, it is about the positve experiences people with disabilites have while they learn about the world.
Contact me and we can talk about your story ideas. Go to the Contact Us page and fill in the short form. Tell me a little about yourself and why you want to become a H&T Correspondent.

H&T Corresponents
Margie Stocker, Ohio USA
With H&T she has petted Cheetah Cubs, done an apple taste test and organized a Touch Tour of Taxidermic exotic animals. The local ACB chapter participated by touching stuffed animals such as a Moose, bear, swan, caribou, and a life size Yoda doll. She has also participated in touch tours at the Cincinnati Art Museum where she felt a Babylonian bas relief of an angel like winged Genius, and an abstract sculpture entitled “Pegasus”

Margie says, “I like the new and different adventures. I have the opportunity to meet many new people. The experience with the cheetah cubs is something I will never forget. When I felt the cat purr it reminded me of petting my house cat, except he was bigger than my dog. He was so soft and fluffy; part of him still had baby fur. I also went to the art museum which I had only been once before. I was surprised that a museum had an accessible touch tour. It was an honor to participate in the docent training. As a Reading tutor I loved being able to contribute to the education of others. People who are blind can go to the art museum and experience the art so that it makes sense to them. I was able to touch at my own pace and ask the docent questions that were relevant to me. This made the visit a personal journey for me. I recommend to anyone to be an H&T correspondent. It will be an experience you will never forget.”
Tom Uhlman, Freelance Photographer, Cincinnati, Ohio USA
Tom will accompany me on nature hikes. He is an avid birdwatcher and has an emense amount of knowledge about nature. He is a professional photgrapher and his website has photos for sale. http://www.tomuphoto.com/
Chickadee clip
Tom says, “I love participapating in H&T events. I have lead a few bird hikes for the local ACB Chapter. Often when we go on hikes Dave will whip out his recorder and we describe the nature around us. It’s very leafy around here so mostly we listen. As a sighted person I am amazed how much we can tell about the woods by the sounds animals make. On one of the best hikes we were looking for Salamanders and then goi “attacked” by Chickadees. L O L Well you can judge for yourself in the below clip.”

Kitty Hevener Cincinnati, Ohio USA
I have worked for over 20 years as a teacher of people who are blind or visually impaired. I also have developed listening skills, critical thinking, and public speaking through my involvement in Toastmasters. I have appeared on the H&T radio program three times, once at a Rembrandt Exhibit and once at the Bengal’s football practice. I also told my story of swimming with dolphins, which you can hear on the below clip. I have helped Dave develop a Touch Tour for a Sculpture Garden. He has relied on me to act as an editing participant in his quest to create images in the minds of his listeners. I enjoy listening to the adventures on his program. The descriptions he gives make me feel like I have traveled with him. I will remember the word pictures he creates for a long time.

I have seen Dave’s accomplishments from the outside, as a listener who is blind, and from the inside as a participant guest describer. The key to his programs are the techniques he has developed to describe objects or places that create illustrations in the listeners mind. His audience has been people who are blind, but his techniques apply to all audiences because even sighted radio listeners, are in effect blind. Detailed and proficient images are appreciated by everyone. I have given him input on these descriptions so they make sense to a person who is blind. He realizes that different perspectives on descriptions leads to everyone seeing a new angle, a new image that they hadn’t seen before. That makes an interesting radio story.

Hello I’m Shawn, I host a music program in English and Portuguese called “Everything but the Kitchen Sink”on an internet station called The Global Voice. I play a little bit of everything.from folk, country, rock, electronic and experimental. I concentrate on regional music from all over the world with an empasis on Latin America, Spain and Portogul. I like to explain the context of the music. I translate the lyrics of different languages so the listener knows how the music fits into the culture. It depends on my mood,, Sometimes I feel like a Brazilian Samba and sometimes Tuvan Throat singing. Sometimes I am inspired by a theme. Recently I showcased St. Patrick’s Day Music. I played folk and folk rock from ireland and the USA, from the Dubliners to the Pogues. As you can see I throw it all in there, except the kitchen sink!
I am fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, and speak a bit of Esperanto. I learned Portuguese entirely online, mostly via Skype since 2004. I enjoy reading, especially science fiction, and have always been interested in learning about science, technology, and cultures around the world. I live in a rural area in northeast Kansas, in the central United States. I have been totally blind since birth. I will be assisting H&T AudioPic News in the descriptions. I’ll add pertanant facts to craft the description so it makes sense in the minds of our listeners. I think this is a great idea who's time has come, and am happy to be a part of it.
Dave Uhlman Host, Producer

This is a picture of Dave at 4 years old.
I started recording H&T about 5 years ago on WRRS Radio Reading Service in Cincinnati, Ohio. I recently took the program on the internet with this website, podcasts, and broadcasting on web radio stations. H&T is currently heard over 70 times a month on various sources. It is also heard on several Radio Reading Service stations around the USA. You can see a list on the Broadcast Schedule. It is my goal to spread the word about H&T and to recruit Correspondents that want to tell stories about theor experiences. You can listen to some H&T Correspondents’s stories below next to their profiles. The H&T network will share their stories with the world.
I make each program about a real life experience. I like to find the beauty in the world and describe it. People with disabilities are an important ingredient in the program but, the show is not about disability. It’s about the experience of the person. Their perceptions and obsevations, Their unique way of seeing the world and the actions they take to enjoy it. The H&T descriptions show details the casual observer would miss. We talk about the experiences everyone can have, and add details to fill in the picture.
